Decided to go with a bare bottom system I plan to line the bottom of the tank with ABS sheeting but want to know if there is a difference using black colored ABS as opposed to using white ABS? If i use white ABS sheeting, will it reflect light better?

I have always been a rocks on the glass type of guy, I did put a white decal on the outside bottom of my old tank to reflect light, but I got lazy and it covered with coralline anyway.

I use black liquid rubber because the lights dont reflect as much and its safer if the rocks ever tumble. Plain glass is too reflective unless covered in coraline. White is awesome if you are ocd about cleaning it.

White will brighten the tank up (similar to painting a room white as opposed to gray or black) but will also “look” dirtier with algae and what not

Do people always use ABS on bare-bottom? im setting up a bare bottom and wasnt planning on running anything on the bottom.
I just protects the tank a little bit in case a rock would fall (obviously not if it’s a big rock falling from the top). I found that it keeps the rocks a little more stable sliding wise

Just make sure your rocks are secure. It will cover with coralline quickly if parameters are stable.
My tank is 4 months old and the bottom is almost completly covered.

hey we gotta practice clue detection based on pics

that has to be live rock from KP or TBS or someone's reef tank, bare white rock can't spew or take on that much coralline in 4 mos.
where's that dandy live rock from

What product? It’s reef safe obviously? This seems like the best solution! Pour, spread, and done.

Even with rock cement my edges bend up a bit, so I have rocks near the edges to hold them down. I even used a hefty 1/4” thick sheet of abs

I think all of them nowadays are safe. Many people use them to seal ponds. Once dried it is inert and non toxic. I use flex seal.

You can use whatever color you want, most people use black. Make sure it’s textured on one side so things can grow/attach to it.

30lbs live rock from my 2 year old nano. 30lbs caribsea dry.
Live rock came from lfs over 2 years ago.
It helps to have a lawnmower blenny and a pygmy cherub angel fish.
They are constantly picking chewing on the rock.
It helps spread the coralline.
I 100% believe in live rock for stability.
Was going to go with TBS but decided to take the nano apart and its now a planted freshwater.
