I'll get right to it, I have goniapora and alveopora corals, from what I read online they require manganese. Currently I have cyanobacteria in the tank, sucks I know! Just received a shipment of of refugite sand witch includes manganese in it. This will keep some available all the time for these corals as I plan on keeping them long term. The problem I face is putting it in now or later as I have heard manganese can potentially cause cyano if too much is present. I currently have cyano as I explain. Will adding refugite cause cyano to go through the roof?

Simple set- up I know. Any advise would be great. Tha ks in advance.

I have multiple goni corals and have had low manganese results on ICP tests with no effects to any of my corals. It's just one of those minor trace elements to monitor periodically and weekly water changes typically replenish it. I'm doing monthly water changes now which is why mine dropped slightly.

Your cyano does not look bad. Increase flow to affected areas. You can reduce lights to 6 hours for couple weeks with blue and uv only no whites. Siphon it out and try @SunnyX Calcium carbonate mix with MB7 in it for cyano elimination.

I've a couple of pretty large Goni's in my tank (see pix) , and to be honest Manganese really doesn't seem to make much difference.

I tried dosing it as advised by Triton on ICP and perhaps they became a little more colorful, but nothing I would swear to.

I keep my tank at 35 psu, Alk 7.7dkh, Ca 420, Mg1350, K 400, NO3 5, PO4 0.1, 78-80F.
Everything stays happy.

Yours look very nice. I've researched it and what I have learned is that if I want to keep them long term, we need to provide it as it "helps them" keep them for more six months/ year. Maybe I'm reading into it too much. Jake Adams (R.I.P) and Julian sprung recommend it as a supplement to keep them healthy. Just trying to copy and paste as they both have had success .

Mine are over 2 years in the tank and started about 2 inch diameter

Don't forget that if you're doing regular water changes you are replacing Mn anyway.

It's only a trace element so not much is needed.

But, experimentation is always fun
