Barebottom tank

Starboard wont deteriorate unless your using ozone.

Welcome to the bb club! For me its a nightmare of detritus sticking to everything. Biofilms and the start of algae. But if you have tons of flow at the bottom you can keep it suspended. But youll probably need tons of flow.
+1 biofilm really makes the detritus in hard to reach places stick to the glass.

Heres 5 days of sediment from my multicylone. Even with this and a mechanical filter that was plugged brown with detritus, theres still some in the tank! Its become an obbession.

Wow! I was amazed at how much detritus accumulated in the tank when we broke it down.

I never used any sealent with using starboard. I have used white starboard with reef tanks and freshwater. The gaps are very small especially if using thicker starboard and physically can't hold much detritus if any.

It's also nice if you want minimal sand eventually as the tiny amount of sand gets blown around you don't see the glass bottom just the white starboard and it hides the glass.

I have also ordered just starboard 2x2 to put under rocks but keep bare glass around the rocks which I also liked.

I used Reel Reef Rock, glued what I wanted together, made sure each large rock section had the bottom hollowed out for a large cave and flow. They don't tip as three points are always touching the glass.
