Barebottom vs Substrate

Bare bottom for me. 3.5 month old 120.

I have one of each, bare bottom much easier to maintain. If you listed to BRS, they say bare bottom is hard in the beginning but once stable, it way easier. Substrate starts easier, but maintenance is more difficult and can cause significant issues in the future.

My two cents: bare bottom is definitely easier to maintain. That having been said, I love critters that dig, burrow, and/or sleep in the sand. I have plate and elegance corals and 4 different wrasses that are sand sleepers. I like to look of sand and the livestock that utilizes it.

Took the words right out of my Mouth... Couldn't agree more.

I do half and half if that makes sense. Enough sand on one side for haddoni and bare in the middle with some on the opposite side. Pumps blow it around a bit but I always make sure to have 2 to 3 inches for the anemones minimum.

I will add some as I suck some out. I sorta work with it.

I added a dusting of sand and later sucked most of it out. I like sps growing on the bottom, and my plates are ok without sand. I would like a wrasse but not enough to mess with the sand they like.
