barrel cleaning

hi guys,
I got two 30 gallon barrels.

I want to store ready-to-use water in there.
Only thing there was concentrate inside and I don’t know how to clean them.

Two questions:

1. Can I store water in there without side effects?

2.how do I get those things clean?

I’m very clueless,

What kind of concentrate? Are you able to easily take the top off? Those appear to be food safe containers so they would be ok if they weren’t used. You will need to make sure that whatever was in them is eliminated and/or counteracted.

I have had a few of those containers before. Because of not being able to open them up and fully wash them out I opted not to use them for water storage.

I used a Dr. Pepper one before and one that stored Iodine Brine. I just rinsed them out with a garden hose and let them dry. I did cut larger holes in the top for pumps and stuff to go in - jigsaw around where the white lids are.

Mine had crush orange and cream Soda in it.
You never had any problems, spikes etc?
Would you mind showing some picture from the lid you made?

You can cut the existing top however you'd like. The barrel is strong enough without it, so cut holes to your pleasure (do it outside... it is messy).

I cooked rock in them and used them for RO reservoir.
