Just received a male bartlett's anthias and he has a red spot on his side at the top. Is this normal? It looks just like this photo I found on the google, which leads me to believe it's normal, but wanted to make sure:

Hard to say. It almost looks to be part of his coloration, but I've not ever seen one quite like that. It could be a subcutaneous hematoma of some kind. I had a male bimac that attacked his reflection so aggressively that he ended up with one.

Red spot is usually an alarm for bacterial infection, but that does blend in suspiciously well to his coloring...

What was the red spot? Natural color pattern or some bacteria infection that went away?

I’m contemplating on getting 4 Bartlett’s but have been hesitate at the LFS because I’ve seen this on many of them and as mentioned, it’s sometimes can be a bacteria infection that can be hard to overcome.
