Hello,

I've received several lbs of base rock from a torn-down saltwater aquarium. I'm going to cook the rock before i add it to my currently cycling tank.

Can anyone give some advice on what are some good cleaning products to use when cleaning up base rock, that's are pretty dirty? I don't want to introduce anything negative into my current tank.

Thanks, for the help !

I would just nuke it. No sense in spending all the time "cooking" it just to save the bacteria if you are happy with the rock in your current tank.

If it were me I would soak in a light bleach solution, maybe 1/2 cup to 5 gallons of water, wait 1 day, lay out in the sun for an afternoon to dry. Wash / scrub clean in RO/DI water, using no chemicals. Then place in aquarium.

I think you cooking (lights out running) should be enough. I would not use chemicals not even bleach.
