Hello Guys
I had a recent debate with a friend regarding this rock for reef
Caribseas southseas. http://www.caribsea.com/pages_caribsea/page_product_baserock.html

I believe is good for rock base, and only rock for a reef tank (seeding the tank with bacteria). He said is not so good, since is not porous enough, and is a hard rock.
What do you think?

It is the same rock that they use for there life rock that is infused with bacteria and tons of holes. I have there life rock in my tank right now you should be good

The discussion mainly are based if the rock is porous enough or not.
The rock looks good, have plenty of holes, but it is heavy and solid. That make us think that it has not porous enogh.
Of course is not pukani rock (big and light) but the question still there...CaribSeas SouthSeas can be used as Only rock in a reef?

Like I said they took this same rock and made there life rock and that is all I have in my 90g reef

I added 100 lbs of that stuff... it is good ! I have plenty of life in them now. Plenty of tiny caves and holes in there and I can see tons of stuff living and swimming on those holes at night...

What about Nitrates? (High?, low?)....does this rock help to complete de N cycle?
Thanks for sharing guys!

Base rock will have nothing in it to start but after your cycle will be great rock. If you get the life rock they put bacteria spores in it that allows they tank top be completely cycled in 2 days

Sorry, I meant the Nitrogen Cycle...as to convert Nitrates in Nitrogen Gas. (Anaerobic bacteria that live inside porous rock make the Job)
