Only way to tell user error is to retest. I will retest if I get a number that does not make sense.
My Hanna and Salifert are typicaly within .2 of each other.
Lets see what tomorrows numbers are.

I agree, and looking forward to this afternoon's numbers with both test kits.

I wanted to just say again how grateful I am that you take the time to help me. My barebottom is so much cleaner now w/ the OW-25. What a difference!

I also noticed you use a lot of carbon. I own carbon but only use it on occasion, let me know when/if you wish for me to add it. I actually bought these tea bags on Amazon. I add two tablespoons and after 2 weeks just toss the bag. I like it better than rinsing out a mesh bag.

Keep in mind this the only mechanical filtration I run except a 3"x3"x1" piece of filter floss in the overflow.
Stay with your current carbon schedule for now and we will adjust if needed later depending on bio load.

I currently do not have rox on the system.

My filtration is floss, UV sterilizer (which I would like to discuss with you if I can remove it, once tank is stable) and 3 logs of biolux media.

Let me know when you wish me to add rox and how much.

Any carbon will work I just prefer rox.
I run a 15 watt UV on my 80g and it does reduce algae.
Keep it running for now.
Lets not add any carbon at this point. We will let the system stablize and then evaluate.

OK so that took a while. Was tricky using the TM for the first time as my 500ml hasn't arrived yet.

dKH: 6.4 (Salifert), 5.8 Hanna
I know yesterday the Salifert read 5.6. I took the Sailfert two times and same reading. (.78 read, .22ml used, 3.2*2=6.4)

Salinity: 35.0 Hanna, 1.0266

Lets use salifert. Remember to make sure the tip is empty before drawing up the testing solition.

Dose 3ml of esv a&b. Always dose alk first. Wait an hour and retest to see the level. This is a good starting point. Report back with alk number.

So if you wish to laugh. I swear I have no luck. I'm looking at the syringe to find the number and it's smeared. I look at my fingers and I see black ink. This cheap point of sale ink is smearing off making it difficult to read.

Retested and value is 6.4

Yea I have a 100 count bag of those syringes for that reason. One should last about 1/2 bottle at 2mll.
Add 3ml again and test. In an hour.
This time test with hanna before the add and after. Also test after with Salifert and we will compair.

So we are at 7 for Salifert 6.4 Hanna
It will take a day or 2 to determine the systems useage and you will start getting a feel for your whats going on as its related to alk useage and dosing.
Test tomorrow at 6pm and we will dose based on a 24 period.
Once we derermine useage we can split the dose to 2x a day.

You are going to need time to dedicate to your system if you want to be successfull.

If your going to be away you will need to setup a dosing system.

Checking when you get home is fine but we will be starting over.
