I have a 180g display tank and a 100g sump in my basement. I am trying to decide on a return pump to fit my needs. I have 14' head pressure and would like in the ballpark of 1200 gph all said and done.

Option 1- I have a reeflo barracuda pump with a baldor motor. Can easily handle my situation . Pulls 250w

Option 2 - look into a DC pump for energy savings. Can they handle this head pressure and still have flow?

Option 3 - suggestions??

Thanks

Option 3, Take a look at Sicce Syncra hf 12.0 good upto 17 head pressure. I've ran one on my 210 with bastment sunp for 2 years now. I have it toned down quite a bit cuz it pushes some water. Comes with a 5 year warrenty.

I also have a line on a Gen-x-PCX-100 older but never used for dirt cheap. I cant find much info on it though.

I’ve used the jebao dc returns for this on multiple systems pumping from basement up to the DT. Never had one fail and definitely plenty of head pressure.

Since you already have it, just use the reeflo. I don’t personally find them the last word in reliability, but there are many here that use them. I personally use PanWorld. The 200 would work in your application, draws about the same 250 watts, but will cost you $300 ish. You’d need to upsize the return plumbing to get 1,200 with the 200 though.

Most DC pumps are not designed for pressure, so you’d have to significantly oversize it at which point your energy savings will likely be minimal. Of course, abyzz would be happy to sell you a pump for $2,500.

Totally agree! If you want controllable DC then abyzz is your only true option but you will pay for sure! Pan World, Iwaki, Reeflo and Dolphin all make pumps that works well for this situation. To a large extent we all have our personal preference. I have used Iwaki, Dolphin and Reeflo. If you are looking for just a one inch return line I guess I would lean Pan World or Iwaki (Japanese model)

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
