Going to start piecing things together for a new system. Going to convert my current 90 gallon into a sump in my basement and replace with a 120g. Looking for people who have installed this setup before. I'd like to find out the things you wish you wouldn't have done and also what worked well for you. I have a few months before I'll be doing the conversion while just upgrading my equipment for my current tank and getting ready.

Thanks guys

Planned my basement sump/DT for a year. Nothing about it has been difficult or a regret. Words of wisdom: pressure rated pump!

When I built the current reef tank I have it was all done on a budget. I have been fortunate and am now the owner of the company I worked at the last 10 years. Now that I have money I'm going to redo things and build more of a dream setup. I have plenty of planning to do and in the meantime I'm going to start upgrading the things that will carry over. First thing will be the lights. I'm thinking of going with the ati t5 wifi hybrid. Only concern is that I can only fit the 36" light not the 48" to cover the entire tank. However I dont see it as a problem. Big upgrade from the 2 black boxes I have now.

Do not set it up under a dishwasher or kitchen sink. I don't know what your ceiling in the basement looks like but you may want to staple plastic to the beams over your sump area if it's unfinished. Dust falling into my sump(s) was an issue for me.
