Basement Ventilation

What will that cost me to buy and install? Is that in the $1,000 range or more like $2,000+?

Would it be plug-and-plug with my new HVAC system or am I looking at cutting holes in the basement wall and such?

These are very easy to install I have done several myself. They work with any forced air type system. It requires cutting a hole in your A/C main duct at your air handler. They do not require any holes outside the air handler holes (none through the house wall or anything like that). It also requires a water supply line somewhere close preferably and a drain line. Usually you use a vampire tap type saddle valve on an existing water line. These unit continuously drain while they are running and IMO waste a lot of water. So having them dump in a sump or using the drain pan from your A/C condensate is probably not the best idea but would work. Most of them use a sail switch that is turned on and off from the fan in your air handler running so that they only run when your fan is on.

Not hard to install if you are handy. The units cost around $200. They all work pretty much the same. If you get one, replace the filter annually.

ADDED: Sorry this is for a whole house humidifier. Not sure that is what you wanted here this thread has gotten a little confusing!

Couple of notes:
Return Air - air that goes back to your air handler. You can never have too much return air.
Supply Air - your vents that supply air - heated or cooled or just air
Air handler - the big unit in your basement or utility room that has the fan in it to circulate your heating/cooling around your house. Usually the air is heated and cooled in this unit.

It could a scam but it's a way to ventilate air to prevent mold and mildew from growing because of all the moisture.

It vents air from under the foundation, I don't think it would help with anything outside that area. I have one in my fish room and I can say it doesn't vent anything the pipe is totally sealed as well as the hole through the pad where it vents from.
