I just picked up this skimmer and not sure how to run it. Skimmer in first or second section? Do you keep that black stuff in the corner? Which drain pipe should I use, the slotted or regular? Thanks!

You can run the skimmer in either, i ditched the black stuff and just threw my marine pure balls in there

Slotted pipes for no sock , solid pipes for socks and if the sloted is to loud then cut some longer un slotted ones

Thanks. How do you get rid of bubbles if you don't use the black mesh? Do you like the sump?

I never had bubble issues and yeah worled just fine planning on buying another one for a new build or a signature series

I’ve kept the black mesh. I use the second/middle chamber for my skimmer. 1st is refugium. I use the shorter tube and keep the first section pretty high. No noise. Adjust the level in the middle chamber for the ideal height for your skimmer.

Does evaporation only happen in the return pump section?

I understand your question. Yes. The volume will only go down in the return section. This is where I keep my ATO. Do you have a controller or a way to shut off power to the skimmer if the return pump is shut off?

Thanks. Does the ATO need to be filled into the return section or anywhere in the sump.....I don't have a controller but if I lose power to the pump I will probably lose to the skimmer as well.

It needs to go in the return section. I guess the fill tube can go anywhere in the sump, but the sensor needs to be in the return section.
When the power comes back on, it will take a while before the skimmer chamber level corrects and so when the power first comes back on the skimmer will overflow. This depends on your skimmer though. Does your skimmer have a delay after power outage?

Ah that's what you mean....i don't think it has a delay....I'll have to see how ill deal with that...thanks for all the info!
