I've never had a freshwater tank and basically know nothing about it.

My sole experience with freshwater was winning goldfish from the carnival when I was little by throwing nickels or pingpong balls into teacups. The poor goldfish never lived long in a bowl of tapwater. :(

I have an old 14g jbj nanocubeDX that I'd like to setup for freshwater mollies. I removed one divider in the back chamber so it's more open.

I've got it up and running with a little modular surface skimmer they works pretty well. I have a maxijet 900 for the pump.

I don't plan to make this fancy at all. Just barebones tank with mollies. Once full grown, they will probably go to my reef.

It's running with RO water now.

So the big question I have is how do I manage the waste an ammonia? I did a little googling but everything was a more detailed FW setup with filters etc..

Can I just put some filter floss in the back chamber, do weekly water changes, monitor ammonia and call it good?

Water changes, add a few drops of seachem prime, feeding sparingly and cleaning/changing filters regularly

Thanks. So would changing the filter floss weekly be a good general schedule?

Yes and utilize good grade carbon with it
