Hello I am new to the reefing hobby and just had a few basic questions. I am wanting to do a water change in a 10 gallon reef tank once a week how much water should I be taking out each week? Also when it comes to overall heath of a tank if I wanted to lets say each week ,with my water change, wanted to check up on my tanks heath what should I be looking for exactly? Thank you

When I had my nuvo 10 (10 gallon tank) set up, I did weekly 1 to 2 gallon water changes and it kept my nutrients (nitrate and phosphate) in check. The general rule of thumb is 10 to 20 percent water changes.

As far as testing overall health, well that depends on what kind of tank it is. If it is a fish only with live rock (FOWLR) then you should check nitrate, phosphate, ph and salinity assuming your tank is already cycled. If it is a reef tank (fish, corals and inverts) then you want to check your alkalinity, nitrate, phosphate, ph and salinity weekly. If your just starting out, I'd recommend checking calcium and magnesium weekly as well until you get more experience and in tune with your tank, then you can test these two monthly
