Anyone know of a way to power the nuro 5 or a varios 4 return pump via battery back up? I assume I don’t want my skimmer running on the back up but I am trying to find something that’ll run for a few hours and not break the bank and that I don’t have to cut on manually.. can’t seem to find anything that’s actually meant for either of those applications. Anyone have any ideas or experience?

I run a CyberPower 1500VA UPS to keep my tank running during a power interruption. In my case I have an Apex so the EB6 is connected to the UPS and all important equipment is controlled via that (heater, skimmer, return, wave maker, chiller). In an outage I keep the return, wave maker and skimmer on for 30 mins, then switch to keep-alive mode, running them 5 mins out of every 30. In my case (65g) that gives me about 5 hours life. Other equipment is off.

According to the CyberPower inbuilt estimate running the 3 pumps continuously would give me about 100 mins life.

I’ll look into that. I don’t have an apex yet so it wouldn’t be as long for me I guess

Just a FYI, I’m looking into this now and called cyber power since Best Buy carries them. Their warranty is voided when hooked to aquariums. Granted how do they prove it unless internal salt build up, but just a FYI.

I run 3 deep cycle marine batteries in parallel. They are connected to a 5000w inverter which the entire tank is connected to. I also use a 110v auto transfer switch with it.

Power goes out, ATF transfers over to battery. Tank runs until power comes back on.

I get between 18 and 24 hours out of it, depending on wether the heaters are on.

I also have a Honda 3000 is for long term outages.

What brand batteries? How big are they? And what switch or where did you get it? I’ve seen some pure sine wave inverters with them built in. I’m gathering all my power demand info to figure out my needs.

My Shopping List:

(3) Delco Deep Cycle Marine Batteries.
(3) Deltran Battery Tenders
(1) Cobra 2500/5000 watt inverter.
(1)TWO WAY - PRE-WIRED 110VOLT AC 15AMP AUTOMATIC POWER TRANSFER SWITCH

I have three batteries connected in parallel, each with their own charger.

If budget is a problem, you can always start with 1 battery and then add on as finances allow. Also, you could go with a smaller inverter to save some bucks.

I found the power transfer switch on eBay. I just checked and they are currently out of stock.
