Battery UPS

So I bought a 1500VA unit last June to keep my tank pump powered up for 4 hours in case of a power outage. The last two times the power went out the out unit completly died after power went out. Battery went from 100 to 0 and turned right off. When power was back on the unit went right back to 100% so its charging. I am using a jebao DC return pump and not sure if my ups is bad or the pump is causing something. Any ideas?
 
Not an expert by any means but sounds like either a bad battery or transfer switch to me. UPS batteries do need replacing but inside of a year seems soon to me. Generally good for two to three years I believe.

The transfer switch may not be switching over to the battery when loss of power occurs. When power comes back is the battery immediately at 100% or is there a recharge period?

Hopefully someone with more knowledge jumps in for you.
 
what unit did you buy?

I am an IT project manager, we use Tripp Lite UPS, they are of good quality. Batteries should last 2-4 years. Once the battery is going bad or is bad the unit should start beeping.
 
Also wanted to add its like the unit is dead. It stops beeping and I have to turn it back on. It then fires up and then turns right back off. So its like it is charged but keeps turning off.
 
I'm a Comp Tech and have had multiple training sessions with APC (#1 UPS Mfgr Worldwide)

A UPS battery is always in constant use.....meaning anything plugged into the UPS is actually coming from the battery power. It's just the battery is being fed a recharge from the AC on the backend.

Thus, your battery us at 100% when being fed AC....and 0% when the AC goes out.

Replace the battery thru Amazon, NewEgg, wherever. Be prepared to pay roughly 75+% of the cost of a new UPS in a replacement battery.

If you dont like the UPS and see a new one with better features....buy the new one bc the replacement battery is close to the price of a new one

Is that even if I plug things into the ports that arent on back up plugs? I do have a lot of equipment plugged into it but only my return pump is plugged into the backup.
 
I'm a Tech not an Engineer. But I would say the non backup ports still are controlled by the internal motherboard. Most UPS ports are still programmed to cleanup the AC Sinusoidal Wave to produce a clean power source.

Thus is where you would need to call the Mfgr bc it depends on model & Mfgr about the batterys involvement in non backup ports

But if you arent getting backup time its 95% chance it's the battery and a 5% it's a malfunctioning motherboard

If you knew how to work a multimeter, you could just test the battery UNPLUGGED
