Battle Begins! Please help identify the enemy!

I am starting to have some algae growth in my display tank. I am running a sump, Trigger style, with chaeto. Tank is only about 2 months old. Is this something that I should worry about? Or just treat with normal water changes every week and be patient?

Sump is struggling with hair algae.

Do you have a light on in the sump?

Turn off all the lightson the tank and sump. Run it for several months with no light, keep no3 and po4 low, keep flow high and dose bacterial. No food and no light means no algae growth. Fish dont need light only corals do so it won't hurt to not light the tank until you add coral.

I do. It sounds like I need to cut light way down. I am worried that I will kill chaeto if I turn it all the way off

Turned off the lights and my CUC drastically cut down the algae. Thank you!
