I’m building a new 90 gallon sump / refugium and I need baffle spacing help. Sorry for the terrible drawing lol My Skimmer will be setting on a stand in its chamber.
Chamber 1 drain with optional filter socks
Chamber 2 18D x 17 3/8 W x 12 water depth
Chamber 3 18D x 17 3/8 W x 9 water depth
Chamber 4 Return pumps.
In the lower part of my drawing what is recommended for spacing between the baffles and how high off the bottom should the second baffle be for the water to go under?

In the past I’ve just made mine 1” above
That’s what I was thinking. What about the spacing between the baffles? I was thinking about 1 “ there as well.

Yup, 1” was where I was but cleaning in between them was a little tight but not too bad.

Thank you for your help! Time to start caulking in all the glass panels!

You should consider reversing orientation of your baffles between the skimmer and the fuge section. You want the water flowing out of the bottom of the skimmer section, this keeps the floating proteins in the skimmer section until the skimmer can skim them.

Good point and I didn’t even think about that. Thankfully I just got back from getting a new piece of glass cut as as I dropped a baffle on the floor while bringing it all to the shop. Hopefully I can get started on this tonight. Gotta head to town and pick the kids up from school now.
