This is the official start of the new @Battlecorals growout contest. The thread will be renamed after we pick a piece. I've talked to Adam and he has quite a few nice pieces to choose from. I put a poll at the top of the thread. Please vote if you are interested in being part of the contest. Your vote matters! After the poll closes I'll start taking names for the contest. That will give me and Adam time to get a hard number of contestants. I have the poll closing at 5:00pm est on Thursday evening!!!
Be on the lookout for the thread title to change with the winning piece!

The cost will be $100 to enter:
$35 for Frag
$45 for shipping
$20 for contest money
I have an off topic question for you guys. When you get these corals from Adam, how do you make sure no pests get in your tank? Do you just put them in your DT because you trust Adam so much? Do you dip and then put them in? Do you quarantine? Just wondering. I’m not a heavy stick person, but plan to be soon!

Coral Box. Hope it works out ok. I've read mixed reviews.

I’ve also got the Coralbox (birthday present - wanted a GHL doser, but significant other wasn’t trying to spend that much and knew I was in the market for a doser and surprised me). For me, it definitely hasn’t been the smoothest but in the end it works a lot like @justingraham explained. I ended up buying more tubing and check valves, and super glued some of the junctions, but still see small bubbles throughout the line. Before tweaking it, and when I had originally left the output out of the water, the air pockets were so massive it couldn’t dose anywhere near accurately and my Alk/Ca dropped significantly. After the tweaks though, and keeping the output submerged, the bubbles still show up but are much smaller, and my parameters (so far, been about 3 weeks) have been consistent but I do have to keep my eye on it for now. I’m also not sure how secure it is.. does anyone know how to change its WiFi pw from the generic? I feel like if my dog ticks of my neighbor or something he might get vengeful by looking up the pw to my doser online and force it to dump a liter of 2 part into my tank lol.

A couple FTS of my youngish (6 months) nano reef tank. I plan to upgrade the lights before the contest starts.

I tried out a ghl doser and it was way to hard for me the set up. I couldn't get it the connect to my wifi or lan I tried for days. The only way I could use it was by connecting directly to it's own wifi with the app. Then one day it disappeared from my wifi could never get it to show up again. Now it's just sitting in the box till I have time to play with it.

Yeah I’ve heard that GHL’s devices seem to be more complex/complicated than others, which did worry me, but it seems like the guys who work for GHL are pretty active here and there seems to be a decent sized community of GHL users. It seems like most people who have issues are able to eventually work it out with their assistance, and once they get them going them seem to run well. I don’t have a controller yet, and I don’t like Apex (mostly design and color pallete reasons lol), so eventually I planned to give GHL a shot.

Yeah. We have a high temp on Wednesday of minus 15. And we're supposed to get 8 inches of snow tonight. I'm about 40 miles south of Adam.
This too will change. Just give it time.

Samething happened to me. I contacted their support and they were able to replicate the “bugs” on their side as well. After that I knew I couldn’t trust it and sold the dosers after 2 weeks of having them.

+1

Just another plus one for GHL doser negative experiences.

I may buy the Red Sea later this year.

I knew they were tricky to set up but it's a aquarium dosing pump. I shouldn't have to be a computer programmer to set the thing up.

So I'll just continue to use my DOS till I switch over to a calcium reactor. 2 part is getting to be a little expensive with the amount I have to dose.

I remove plug off carefully with appropriate tools, then a 5 minute dip in Revive, then a 5 minute dip in Lugols (iodine) mix. Then some gorilla glue, and on to hopefully to the right spot of the reef !!! Good question by the way...

All done after a 30 minute float in the sump

I'm doing the Shag priority but just wanted to say I've had good luck with my GHL doser. Once set up to the internet it hasn't skipped a beat and was easy to program for me. I also have the KH Director and after a couple bobbles setting it up everything has been great. Just keep in mind that if you are just dosing with it you don't have to have it hooked to WiFi all the time. You can use the USB cable to hook to your computer. For me, once the doser was set I haven't touched in a month.

Very nice, keep up the good work :)
What lights are you going to upgrade too, if you don’t mind saying?

Thanks. It’s currently just a single xr15 g4 pro with diffuser but I’m going to try that aquatic life hybrid T5/LED fixture. I’ve never used T5’s before (used halides before I switched to LEDs) so I’m kinda excited to explore the options and they seem to get the best reviews.
