Battling Cyano, Cyano is winning

As the title says fighting Cyno, and it is winning. Have cut back on feedings, i have as much flow as my setup will allow (any more and it is a sandstorm of seaflor select, not exactly a fine grain substrate) lighting has been reduced as well. Nitrates test undetectable, no phosphate kit at home, only one I can afford right now is API. Any ideas?

You might try chemiclean. I had a cyano issue a while back and was unable to figure out why or get rid of it. Used this stuff once and it never came back

what size tank is it? if its smaller, just do some huge water changes. works like a charm. some carbon/purigen/chemiclean is a good idea as well.

Slow down. I would say it's your phosphates. I use a hanna checker for that but I use salifert for the other stuff. Sounds like money is the issue. Cutting back the lighting may seem to help but but the cyno is using the light to process the nutrients in the water. shortening the lighting period slows the reduction in phosphate. let the cyno eat it up. also weekly water changes will get you back were you need to be. Do you use RO or RO/DI water to make saltwater and top off water? In florida where I am we have it in our public water so it's a must to use RO/DI water. If you are only treating tap water than you could be introducing it that way. Use top quality fish food do water changes every week. Start with 10% twice a week for two weeks than 10% a week. You don't want to shock your tank.

I run Rowa-Phose in a reactor and weekly water changes and that keeps it in check. BRS has a reactor and pump combo for a fare price and I found the best price for Rowa-Phos at Amazon

i had the same issue. water changes changed all my RODI media smaller feedings nothing worked. UNTIL i added a single does of chemiclean and airstone in my overflow. it was all gone in 2 days

Ok the tank is a 72 Bowfront reef ready from AGA. I run a bag of Purigen, and a media bag of carbon on the tank in the sump (AGA megaflow 2), and added a bag of Chemipure elite I won in a raffle. I am also running biopellets in a JNS Alpha 2 reactor. Currently at 1/4 cup of pellets. My RODI is 300GPD with dual DI stages, putting out 0tds. I do water changes every couple weeks (i travel for work so I have to do Bi Weekly changes) and feed a mix of frozen food (from a club event) and NLS/NLS Thera A foods daily, and Coral Frenzy, when I am around and remember. I would have a phosphate kit, but my hours get cut this time of year, and I am about $3k lighter in the paycheck till January.

If you want to try Chemi-Clean.....do a 3 day lights out, siphon as much out as much cyano as you can.
Dose the Chemi Clean following the directions. Do the recommended water change and try to get rid as much of the
remaining Cyano as possible. I reduced mu cyano by 80% by doing this. (tanks is about 10 months old).
The reduction was not as dramatic as some peoples.....it kinda dwindled away over a few weeks after used the chemi clean.

I have read both that it helps, and that it kills cyano. Hard to tell with the internet these days, so much more info, harder to seperate BS from real info.
