Be honest??

Yo bro it won't work. You may have 8 fish in a 20 gallon but probably not so demanding as a dragonet. A tank that small can't support a fish like that. They eat a phenomenal amount of pods each day. A tank that small isn't healthy for a fish like that. It's also not healthy for something to be in such a small tank as a an 8 or 7 gallon. Whatever it may be. They do need to swim around.
The money aspect also would be outrageous to supply a tank that size. He could more than likely eat a bottle of pods a day. I use to have a mandarin in a 20 gallon before I cared bout the fish just what I had to show for a reef tank.

It won't work the fish will die and money will be lost

Bruh one of my fish in my 20g is a dragonet. I spot feed him every day with live copepods. And all 8 fish are doing great, fat as they can be for almost two years now.

You have more time on your hands than most. But just because you made it work doesn't mean it'll work in 7 gallon tank. I probably would only put a clown goby in there.

I have a green dragnet is a 16 gal tank only because , i got him to go in my big tank but my mandarin fights with him so i had to put him in small tank with 1 maroon very large unsociable clown, he was the size of an ant now he is big and fat

Susan, I have one thing to say to you. You are an excellent aquarist. :D

Honestly.. You could... But.. It would require modification..

Modification that you probably don't want to do(most people don't on that sized tank). I have had mandarins in brand new tanks(including my system I have now) over the years.. Actually almost every tank I've had.. And they always remained fat... But one thing I always had was a sump and a well lit fuge‘ Even a micro fuge(like a 5 gallon tank.. And like I said, you'd have to be creative), that is well lit, and with a few pieces of live rock to seed, will supply more than enough pods.. And I'm not talking about something hang on that's dimly lit..

But if your not willing to take on the project, then your more humane and better off leaving the blennies and mandarins alone in that sized tank..
