Hi guys and girls!

So I had my beach bum montipora replaced as the other one didn't make it through transit. It's on it's way and arriving tomorrow so, is there anything I can do in preparation? Any tips on making it acclimate as stress free as possible as I dont want this one to die!

Also, is there any special care tips for these high end monti's? I already have a mystic sunset and sunset monti... can I assume the care is the same?

Many thanks Alfie!

Put it down in the sand and don't blast it with too much light.

Thanks for the comment! I have a frag rack about half way up on the edge of my tank so it's not getting loads of light. My sunset monti loved being put on there straight away. Would you still suggest starting from the bottom?

Alfie.

Yes, it's a low level lighting position coral.

I think I have mine in 150ish PAR. Haven't taken my PAR meter to it in a little. I find it to be a slow grower compared to WWC Kung Pao monti. I will say that I think when a monti settles in, it really take off in growth. They do use up a fair amount of mag when they get going so I would just double check on that level besides the usual ALK/CA. Good luck and enjoy the piece!

Yeah I've heard they are slow growers! But I will just leave it be for a while once in the tank. Having already had one piece die on me indent want the same to happen!

Is your sunset a slow grower? min is just now starting to spread off the plug, have had it for about 8 months. Its growing good now, hoping to cover my overflow.

My fastest growing monti is the Jason Fox aquaman. The crazy thing is, back when I first got it/before I had a PAR meter, I place it high in my tank but thankfully to the side. Thing has grown a lot! Prob getting 300+ PAR which for a monti is wild. Has outstanding colors and all as well. My beach bum just seems to be getting going over the last month, covering and starting to encrust past the plug top. It’s a nice piece.

My Beach Bum doesn't like a lot of light, but it does enjoy a decent flow. It was a little tricky for me to find a spot in my tank with the right mixer of low light and good flow. When it's happy this Monti really glows!

So I've only just put it in! It seems to be really happy so I'm hoping will start to grow soon.

I think starting it off on the sand bed will be the way to go by then sounds of it. I have a Jack no lantern next to the place I'm going to put it and its moving life!

Yeah that's mental! I guess I will gradually work it up to a higher lighting spot over time... having said that I have a mystic sunset monti that is as high as my acro's and it's doing amazing!

Yeah it’s def not something I would recommend for a monti but you can’t lie with its growth. Really wild hobby lol

My beach bum is getting blasted up top with my acro's and is doing great.

The frag is in now and is mounted relatively high but on the outside edge so is not getting looaaddss of light yet. Polyps are out and is sooo beautiful!

My Beach bum is a slow grower. Prefers lower light too. Be patient and enjoy growing it out. :)

Thanks for the reply! It seems super happy now so hopefully if I just leave it alone for the time being it will settle in and start to grow. Eventually i will move it on to a piece of rock. Does it encrust or plate out?

Alfie.

I have mine at about 150 par low in tank with lots of random flow. I'm afraid of moving it up and bleaching it out.

Enjoy your frag, and hope it grows out nicely for you.
