OK so what I'm wondering is if this rock will be OK to use as my live rock to get my tank up and running. I'm making my yearly vacant to maine and always am able to find loose rock. This is what one looks like from last year that I got. Wasn't doing SW so never thought anything about them. This one is the size of my fist. I know maine is cold water but I was thinking add them when I cycle my tank as well as store bought live rock to seed them.

I would cure it first... you never know what could be or was on it. ..
Maybe put it in a bucket with a pump for a while before putting it in your tank. ..

Should I let the rocks sit in the sun for a while to let stuff die. How long should the rocks be in clean water before being tank ready?

You can sun them, or cook em in the oven, called baking. After that, give em a scrub down, and throw them in. They will of course need to be cured.
