Hello all, I need help with a new tank I’m trying to set up. This is my first venture into sumps, and after a little bit of research I decided to go with a modular marine overflow for my new 75 gallon tank. The issue I’m running into is that the overflow has 3- 3/4” bulkheads, and any sump that I’m looking to purchase has 1” bulkheads for the drains. I could step up the pipe to 1” but I would be worried about extra air in the pipes causing excess noise, Has anyone had any experience with 3/4 inch drain pipes stepped up to 1”, or is there any other solution. Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Just go to a 1” adaptor at the sump. Will work fine that way.

Thank you, that was the plan, just was worried about gurgling and the sort due to it being in a well traveled area.

+1 on a 1" adapter.

As long as you terminate the drain pipes about 1" below the water level in the sump, you won't have any gurgling issues. The full siphon line will always be quiet since it won't have any air in it. And the secondary line will only be noisy if you run a significant amount of flow through it versus the recommended 'trickle' -- which would be the case in any BA setup regardless of having to use an adapter.

I have 3 x 1" from the reef savvy, right out of the box I went 1 1/2" for all 3 down to my sump as it had 3 x 1 1/2" input. No noise at all, now the whirl I hear from the flow sensors, that is another story.
