what I actually did LOL
So I tell them on the phone to pop the top and front and I"ll be there in a little while.
When I got there daughter's SO was ready to "kick it to the curb" but the dryer was in the center of the room with the top and front popped off.
Sure enough the belt was broken and down in the bottom of the dryer.
So I try to grab the back and front of the drum and it won't budge. So we unscrew three screws in the center of the drum and it comes forward with a flat round plate with a ball into a socket still in the bearing on the back.
Go out and spend $15 for a new belt.
Return and they have cleaned up all the lint over the motor and case.
I then notice there is an opening on top of the socket and grab the flat round plant and pull up. After some effort it pops out. And I have a nasty sheet metal 1" long cut in my middle finger. Which we wrap with paper and try not to drip much blood on the floor.
The SO then screws in that plate to the back of the drum.
We then get the new belt around the drum and sure enough the drum just drops in by setting the ball above the socket and just letting it fall into place.
We then reach in for the tensioner and the spring falls off. So we attampt to bend the end of the spring so the spring will stay attached but that doesn't work.
So I fire up my cell phone and replay the video. After putting the belt over the pulley and motor, the video states if you can't get it in from the front there is a access panel in the back.
Sure enough three screws later the access panel is off and the belt on correctly on the motor and tensioner.
Before that the pulley had dropped off the shaft, the bracket had dropped of the mounting and so on.
so basically how not to replace a belt.
Found out last night the first dryer load came out all black.
Of course the most expensive part of the entire process was the 2 hours annual leave I had to take for this 15 minute job.
