So my sump is basic. No refugium, no light. Just socks, skimmer, ato, and return. Have some rocks in there and some old dead coral skeletons.

I noticed this pretty scallop-looking thing on an old coral skeleton base the other day. It's definitely alive bc it closes up when I get too close. Any ideas?

That's some sort of mussel, and a pretty one at that. Nice find!

If you'd like easier viewing, you can move it to your main tank. Probably best to put it in a low-light area to avoid algae obscuring that pretty shell. It should do well anywhere that has a decent amount of flow to keep it fed, and will benefit from, but may not require, feedings of phytoplankton and other tiny foods.
