I have been incredibly busy with a new baby and officiating football, plus my job! We all know life can get in the way of our hobby however, I decided enough was enough and began the revival!

My stand was in pretty bad shape, really wanted to build one but the wife suggested I stick with working on Computers... We bought a new stand for the tank and she painted it. I just need to add the doors.

Well many advised this is more work then it was worth but I wanted to ensure my Commander and Chief wouldn't get to frustrated if I bought more sand so I rinsed and rinsed... It was a job and now I will be monitoring my levels...

Welcome back man!

tank revival and sand rinsing sounds like a party to me o_OI recently pulled my sand bed. Did it in 2 Saturdays.

I do have a question, right now I have the Marineland LED set up over the 90 and I just dont believe it grows coral https://www.amazon.com/Marineland-Double-Bright-Light-48-Inch/dp/B0032536R4...

Are these powerful enough?? If your opinion is that they are not is there (without getting $1000 lights) an alternative? I am even willing to think about the T5 options. I just dont have a lot of knowledge with the lights and I really want my Coral to grow.

That fixture will have a hard time reaching the bottom of a 90 gal 24 inch deep tank. 4 t5s and what you have might work. 6 bulb T5 def would have you covered.

Alright folks, After the holiday rush I am back to update! Cleaning sand is not fun, but it looks great and I saved money... I did a new rockscape and got everything up and running and its looking pretty good with the new stand!!! I will post some pictures in a bit. Water params look great!

No that light will not grow coral and will even have difficulty growing algae. I used the same one over my sump for a while looking for energy savings. When i moved to a Chinese black box led from ebay my fuge exploded. They are also good enough to grow any coral. Understand you'll never get t5 type of growth with leds. I like a mix of t5 for growth and led for better colors.

You should start your own thread for an off topic question. But no that light will not grow coral and will even have difficulty growing algae. Should I put the Power head on the same side of the return outlets? I dont remember the model off hand and I am not at home. However, would it be more efficient at that location?

That looks fantastic! Cleaned up very nicely!

My opinion....leave it opposite if the returns, will drive the stuff that collects on the surface into the overflow where it can be removed as well as uneaten food and such.

Agreed - plus, it'll scour the bottom at the left end, preventing detritus buildup there.

On an unrelated note, "You Are My Sunshine" was the song my sister-in-law used to sing to the babies in her world (my kids), and it always makes me tear up, just a little . . .

BTW - Welcome back!
