Ask for a CURRENT tank shot!
I have seen so many people preaching do this and do that and you go back and look at there tank and it’s loaded with algae and there corals look like garbage. I saw one thread the other day where one guy was telling several people they best way to get rid of aptasia and getting on others for not wanting to follow his lead and I went into his posts and he shut his tank down 6 months ago because of aptasia! what the heck!!
There is enough bad advice out there do your homework guys!! Ask for a tank picture and if they can’t provide than disregard them.

Great advice. If I may, I'd like to add one little caveat.

Even the best advice is just advice. All tanks are different, and it's impossible for anyone to get a true feel for the nuances of someone else's system simply from forum posts. What works in one tank often won't in another. For example: I have beaten aptaisia (for now) using peppermint shrimp and file fish with no noticeable adverse effects. Others have had drastically different results.

I like to use terms like "This worked for me", or "You may want to look into that" and steer away from those that say "Do this. Period. Done". Except in emergency situations of course.

A picture of a beautiful tank, bursting with brilliantly colored corals speaks to the experience and knowledge of the reefer. Someone that you may well be able to trust for solid advice. Just keep in mind that that IS NOT YOUR TANK. There are so many drastically different ways that people have achieved success.

Ultimately there is no substitute for collecting opinions, doing your research, weighing your options, and implementing methods that YOU are most comfortable with. Just something else to consider.
