I am looking at adding some beginner corals to my tank. I was thinking of buying one of the beginner mushroom and polyp pack which includes hairy mushrooms, colony polyps, button polyps, and bullseye mushroom. The second pack I am considering is the beginner LPS which includes one of these from each line.
1. Candy Cane Coral (Fiji) - or Trumpet Coral
2. Button Coral Scolymia -or Plate Coral, Green Short Tentacle
3. Plate Coral, Asst. Short Tentacle 1 Brain Coral, Pineapple

Anything to steer clear of? Will any grow like weeds and take over?

I would not consider plate corals to be beginner corals. They tend to be a bit sensitive, I would remove them from your list of beginner corals. The 1st pack you mentioned is absolutely a great beginner coral pack.

Mushrooms and zoas can take over depending on type but you can isolate zoas on to an island to keep them from taking over. Mushrooms can grow pretty rapidly as well but I think they are manageable to keep under control.
