beginner trying to pick my very first coral

Gareth, I really like this. Is this a corky finger Goronian? Just want to make sure I have looked up the right thing. Also your's looks pretty big in your picture, about how big is yours, and how long have you had it?

Mine is 5 years old or so. Got as a 1/2”-3/4” frag, its now around 8-10” and 6 or 7 stalks.
Top of it is getting around 250 par and flow in my tank is around 40x volume. I do not target feed my corals. Add a cube of either hikari coral gumbo, cyclopods, or rotifers when i feed my fish so there is particulate food.

I'd agree with the ones that said hammer corals. That was one of my first corals in my tank. I also bought an inexpensive 3 head torch within the first 3 months of the start of my tank.

For me Duncans have proved to be pretty indestructible. Once nice thing is you don't have to worry about sweepers and there is still lots of movement in random flow. Hammers are good too.

You could try a fuzzy mushroom. My clowns host them. Easy coral.
