Well, my tank is running and my water tests are looking good. I won't be stocking my tank with more than a gsp that was given to me by a lfs owner for at least another two weeks. I'll be getting my protein skimmer at that time as well. I've researched the GSP and I know to isolate it when it starts taking over. Within an hour of introducing it to the tank it opened up and spread out. This little guy seems eager and now the bug has fully bitten! I know leathers are a good start but I'm sure there's tons of other great beginners corals. I know for sure I want a brain, but other than that I really only want bright corals that aren't overly aggressive and are, of course, fish safe. I like the guys that like spreading out and the wife insists on a couple clowns, so something they enjoy other than the GSP. Any suggestions? The tank is a 135g.

All corals are fish safe. Look into mushrooms and all of the different kinds, leathers, tyree toadstool, and some cheap zoathids to try out. I would hold off on a brain for a while. At least until you have a good understanding of what they need.

What lights are you running?

I have two lights with four bulbs, they're T5s. I'm not sure on the model or bulbs, I bought them from a guy running a fish only tank. The bulbs are only a few months old. Are there any bulbs I should look into?

I have heard ATI makes awesome bulbs. So that is what I put on my frag tank that is still cycling. I have nothing in the tank yet to say for sure they work, but it seems that is the general consensus...

mushroom corals are a great beginner coral, most zoanthids are also newbie friendly.

Glad to hear most zoas are good for beginners. I'm a big fan. Hopefully my LFS has some decent bulbs. Mine aren't too old but as I said it doesn't look like he bought them with corals in mind.

Pulsing Xenia is a good starter coral also.

They are but make sure you isolate them as they are like the gsp. Mushrooms are great but I would try to get some of the rarer kind or some that you really like as they can also multiply like rabbits. Zoas and Palys are great too.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I'll be waiting until I'm sure my tank is ready for more. For now I have a cyano problem to take care of. Any suggestion on that front would be appreciated as well! I'm changing water, reduced the light time and added a power head. The bacteria seems to be reproducing but at a much slower rate. How should I finish this problem off?
