Believe to be pineapple sponges?

Hey all,
So looked into my sump today and found 100s, 100s, 100s, and more 100s of what appear to me pineapple sponges maybe? I know these are pretty good natural filters for the water but I’m afraid on them getting into the pumps, etc. I guess I’ll be cleaning a lot of them out of the sump the best I can!!

I don't know enough about them. I actually have not seen them in my tank or in any I have worked with.
