I'm thinking of adding a Bellus Angelfish (Genicanthus bellus) to my reef tank that is mostly LPS. I'm wondering if they could be trusted with Acans, Lobos, ect? Has anyone had any trouble with this angel picking or eating LPS?
Thanks

From what I understand Bellus angels can definitely nip coral. Swallowtail angels are from the same family and wont nip at corals. I have a pair of swallowtails and they are awesome fish to keep. I originally thought all genicathrus angels were reef safe but bellus and lamarck and maybe some others are known to sometimes nip. My buddy got a bellus and he tells me the angel eats coral occasionally. Watanabei (or however you spell it) and swallowtails are a safe bet I believe.

I have had a few (have a female now) and never have seen one pick on coral. Mixed reef with a good amount of LPS. Hammer, Frogspawn, Bubble, Acans, Torch, Chalice, Caulastrea, Favia, Trachy. Also have lots of SPS, Clam, and BTA which are left alone. Great reef inhabitant in my opinion!

I have a Bellus Angel mixed reef and she's been a model citizen.

Thanks for the replies! I had a swallowtail for awhile, she never picked at anything either. I like the look of the bellus, I also like the the wanatanbie. I tried a regal, but that didn't work out. As it turned out, she ate lots of my corals before I found her a new home.

The whole genus of Genicanthus are planktivores, not substrate grazers like the other kinds of angels.

Bellus is reef safe.

I have a Bellus with a Coral Beauty and a Flame, and none of them have bothered any of my corals, and I have a mix of SPS, LPS, and softies.
