Hey all,

I am about to purchase a couple new fish and I have a question about setting up a quarantine tank and I have a couple questions.

I have a small 10 gallon tank with a hang on the back filter. The media that came with it was just carbon. (Since long gone and used up) Now there is nothing in it but a chamber that I could put really anything in it.

I use filter floss on my main system and replace it approximately every three days. Would the used floss have enough beneficial bacteria on it to stuff it in the hang on the back for the quarantine tank?

Also, would I need to run carbon on this quarantine tank if I am not medicating and just observing the fish?

Thank you in advance!!

Just take a hammer to a piece of live rock and fill the HOB. I would just use water changes for export.

I have a 10g QT and I cured and cooked some dry live rock for it. MB7 was used on the rock and is added to the QT once ina while. HOB filter for water flow and has some sponge media to remove waste. I use water changes for most of the waste export, with water from the display tank.

Ahh. Thank you. Yeah a water change is only 3 gallons or so.

Thank you, I also use those ammonia detectors that stick inside the tank. Seachem brand
