Hello,

At this point I am still only FOWLR with plans on doing more some day. Can anyone explain why I would want a wavemaker in a 32 gallon BioCube that only has two clowns and a small CUC? I just received my MP10WQD and was wondering if putting it in the tank now would have any benefit.

What are your thoughts?

I don't think you do. Wavemakers provide wave like movement and flow and corals really need that. But if you are only planning to have fish, I don't think you need it.

It isn't needed, but just think where the fish come from, the sea which has strong currents, not flat calm, the fish are used to swimming in current and its what they are built for so make them happy and add some flow to the tank.
It doesn't have to be a fancy program like for corals but just a random flow.

Having good flow can prevent film and such building up on the surface, helps with gas exchange, and replicates a natural environment. If you're going FOWLR I'd use a less high end powerhead, but I'd still use one.

Depending on your filtration system you would want a wavemaker to keep the detritus and other waste suspended to be removed from the system.

Nice replies, thank you!

I DO plan on adding corals, but want my tank to mature further and become a bit more stable before I take that step.

I think I'll add the MP10 today....I have a bunch of algae on rocks and glass and there is also a TON of junk floating in the water column...I suppose this is ditritus. Maybe the wavemaker will help push it back into the filter and out of the water column...

Yes you should always want good flow in a system for waste removal. Best to add it early if you plan on a reef system. This will also help the good bacteria/microfauna build to a healthy population from the start. It will grow with the system and give you less headaches long term.

OK - popped it in!
