I have 5 of these guys in my tank. I added 3 2 weeks ago and a few days ago I noticed this. He eats and acts just fine. Wondering if its an injury or a disease or parasite. IMG_1862.JPG

Can you take a clearer pic? I'm having a hard time making out what that is.

Looks like an injury to me, I would watch for infection.

I would source metroplex, furan 2, and kanaplex for wide range antibiotics in case, and ready a QT.

That could be an injury. Looking at it, I think would have a hard time not pulling those fish for a treatment with antibiotics.

Additionally, it should be noted that two of those bangaiis will pair off, and once they do, it's likely to be "open season" on the rest.

These guys don't get along well with other bangaiis of their own gender, as a general rule. You may find that you need to rehome several of them.

^^ Agree with above; if it isn't already infected, it soon will be.

Thank you all. I have started with metroplex. All the pics are the same fish. Not sure if that was clear.

just following along and i have a question, what is the need for an antibiotic, fish in the wild get small injuries all the time they are not treated with antibiotics, now since these are aquarium fish does that differ?

In the ocean parasites, worms and harmful bacteria are diluted by all the water. Thus, concentrations are more manageable for healthy fish, or injured/old fish just die because that is nature's way i.e. survival of the fittest.

In the confines of a glass box, a fish's natural immune system is often overwhelmed by a much higher number of nasties. This is why those with large systems (300+ gallons) are often able to successfully implement "disease management" techniques.

In the wild, mama-fish lays 3,000 eggs, and doesn't really bother much about how many of her offspring are taken out by bacteria. (In the case of mama-ocean-sunfish, that may be as many as 3 billion eggs. Annually.)

If I've dropped several hours worth of salary on a marine fish from the other side of the planet, I'm going to do whatever I can (or at least try!) to keep _that_ fish alive.

Ok, that was very well said. I'll add a very succinct +1 :)
