hello!

new here and thought i'd post some current tank shots. this system filled fresh on january 3rd of this year using all dead rock and sand in an effort to keep it sterile and pest-free. the coralline really started to take off at about the 6 month mark, and now most of the rock is covered nicely. since the tank is very young, most of the corals are just frags.

the tank is a ~200g custom-sized display measuring 80x24x25 and has a starfire front. it is built in-wall with a full fish room behind the tank. i use two vortechs, a wavebox, and a very open rockwork structure to provide flow to all parts of the tank. behind the tank i have about another 200g worth of system volume. i have a 100g stock tank main sump, a 50g stock tank mostly full of sand and liverock to eventually act as a cryptic zone, and another 50g stock tank that is part of the system which i use for water changes. this makes water changes very easy, as i simply turn two ball valves to do a 50g water change.

one last picture, this one shows the back side of the rock work. there is a channel down the back of the tank behind the rockwork for the wavebox to fire down. this also allows me to easily access the space behind the rocks, allowing me to blow the back side of the rocks off with a powerhead to keep everything clean.

Awesome patch reefs you have there.

thanks!

yes, that dog washing sink was the best addition to the fish room i've made. i picked it up on the cheap from a dog kennel facility that was getting new ones. it makes maintenance tasks so nice!!! plus i can use it to wash our dogs. :D

Very nice!

I love the rock scape. Great work so far. Keep it up.

That is one good looking tank!

some updated shots. i hosted our area's reef club meeting this weekend and put these pics together for the club's website.

i recently switched from 4 x 250w ushio 20k/pfo lighting to 2 x 400w radium 20k/galaxy lighting. also added 2 x 6' vho super acts plus 2 x 6' vho 454 bulbs.

also added a frag tank for lps growout, so posting updated pic of the fish room.

thank you!

i am downstate from you in bloomington/normal. our local club is "bnarc" - we hosted "fragtoberfest" in october if you heard about that...

oh man, that is quite a drive lol. do you know if any swaps are coming up? and did you get that tank local?

sorry - i believe the swap season has pretty much come to an end for the year locally.

Thats one sweet shirt in the luandry room in pic six.

On a side note the tank looks amazing, also love the industrial stainless steel sink, never thought of that must be a pretty penny may i ask where you got one from?

thanks for the compliments - even on the shirt. ;)

the sink is a stainless dog bathing sink. it is hands down the best addition to my fish room. i can completely disassemble and spray out my large skimmer and reactors in the sink - dunno how i survived without it for so long! plus, when i'm done doing the tank maintenance, i can give our dogs a bath. :D

Was looking at your last pic of your frag tank, are your lights above your tank that high all the time or do you have them raised for the pic? Tank room looks great.

tang and nemo - thanks!

strout - yes, i have been keeping them up that high. i have some rainbow acans and lower-light chalices that want to bleach under higher light. i'm running 6 bulbs of t5ho and the frag tank is just 8" tall...

i've got the light rig high enough to place the t5 bulbs at 24" off the water surface. the led powerbrites are the same height, but aproximately 7" out from the tank aiming in at 30*. i run the t5s for 5 hours. after that the frag tank gets a lot of blead-over light from the main display, as i am using the big lumenmax reflectors over the display and get a lot of light blead out the back. i have only been using the powerbrites for pictures and to look at the colors when i want to be wow'd. :D
