Ben's 28g redux

quick update on the upflow turf scrubber...i haven't looked at it in a while, but took a peek late last night right before bed and saw lots of bright green. i didn't pull out the screen, as i was headed to bed, but can't wait to check it out a bit later today. will update with photos as soon as i get the opportunity.

i removed the airline tubing for the picture so it wasn't disturbing the water surface so you could see...

Indeed! It works! :)

I've noted a steady decrease in the amount of nuisance alage I've had to manually remove from the display. In fact, it's been over two weeks (now that I think about it) since I've removed anything from the display.

Cool beans! :D

AWESOME updates Ben, Reef is really lookin' good bro. I'll have to come check it out someday or look you up on next trip to 'Chi Town' aka 'Windy City' aka 'Cold as all get out' this Winter. So you will definitely not be seeing me anywhere near until at least late Spring.... lol And of course if the Insurance Business ever brings you out to Seattle you're more than welcome to stop by here bud.

Cheers, Todd

Thanks Todd! I'm searching deals to make a short business trip to LA to photograph some amazing livestock. I'm so looking forward to it, you have no idea! Well, actually you probably can imagine based on what you know about our current weather predicament how eager I am to get to warm weather - and for something I enjoy doing the most at that. :)

I think that's quite far from Seattle still. But, maybe I'll be on the West coast pretty frequently in the future.

You ever make it out this way, you've got a place to stay. ...although I'm more mid-state than Chicago area.

Cheers!

Looks delicious! Taste it for me? I've yet to complete mine. I've been holding off doing much with the BC, I'm working on an AIO diy for the 40g that's currently sitting in my living room floor.

How I missed this!
Thanks for sucking me into this.
And I don't often read a thread twice but this is amazing.
Love the simplicity, and to be honest I'm heading that way too with my tank.
Just have to do it slow, not in the as I'm never been to crash my tank.
Only filtration I have running as of now is Lifereef VS3-30, 30" tall (IMO the best skimmer)

KISS - keep it simple, salty! :)

Seems to be working. Know it's worked for a lot of successful people like yourself.

Keep me posted man!

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the simplicity. Lets me enjoy the animals.

Ben,

Thanks for hooking me up to this thread! The corals are awesome... but the photography is incredible! I love photography, but I tend to do more race cars than anything. My wife does butterflies and nature stuff. We have turned our entire backyard into a garden and there are times when it looks like O'hare Airport for butterflies! We've both done some tank photos, but nothing even in the same league as you! We do get some nice underwater photos, but it's when we are out snorkeling. :xd:

I figured you would enjoy seeing what LEDs are doing over this tank with a wide variety of coral types. Everything seems to do well no matter where I put it.

And thanks for the compliments on the photography. I'm always looking to improve - believe in always being a student.

Cheers!

tonight i harvested the algae from the turf scrubber for the first time. here's what i pulled out. this is in a 5g bucket. looks more like hair algae to me than turf algae, but whatever controls the nutrients, right?

How did your upflow algae scrubber end up working? I'm thinking of putting one just as simply made in my sump.
