First time using berghia nudis. Just ordered a few for a tank that I have neglected for a little while. Just curious to know if I should be leaving my skimmer and powerhead off while they are doing their thing? Also I have a bit of cyano in the tank as well. Will this harm the berghia at all?

Thanks in advance,
Jordan

Welcome to R2R Jordan! Never used berghia before, but I believe once they're crawling around the tank, you can turn your equipment on as normal. Hopefull others will chime in with a better answer for you ;) But wanted to say hello and welcome you to the forum :)

Just went through some Berghia. Current and a skimmer should be fine. I was given the advise to put the container they come in near some Aiptasia and allow them to leave on their own. They did take months before I noticed breeding and an improvement and they took mine down from 50-60 to 2-3. Then I think they all got eaten, personally I think it was the Asterina eating the eggs, and my aiptasia have restarted spreading. Super fun times.

Using the pipette place them on your liverock away from the aptasia while your pumps are off. Once they have crawled into the rock crevices you can turn pumps back on. Hopefully you bought the large ones, not the small? Also watch your glass while cleaning, they will many times create an egg string on the glass. The most I ever bought for a tank was 4, waited a six months and aptasia was gone. When I had a local supplier he would bring two with eggs and that was all it took to clean a tank.

Thanks everyone! I bought 8 1/2 inchers for my 20 gallon innovative marine tank. I figured that would be enough for 20 gallons and there's probably enough Aiptasia for 50 of them haha. I'm drip acclimating them now.

I added 12 a few weeks ago to my 46 gallon very hard (@ least for me) to get in the tank as they are very “sticky”. I shut all my pumps off for an hour during/ after adding them. And reduced my MP10’s by 50% for 2 days after. It will take a month or two before you start seeing results depending on how big the infestation is. I’m starting to see some reduction at ablut 3 weeks in & have been seeing a lot of egg sacs.
