I'm looking to make a couple upgrades, in the mix is a new skimmer. I've read a lot of good things on the Bermudas - they do take a large pump, but once you are running they seems to do well and (from what I have read) don't mind being in 12" of water.

I'm running a 72+sump right now. I would like to upgrade to a 90+sump+20 fragging tank. Is a 3C going to cut it or should I look at the 5C?

Bermuda BPS-3C Bermuda Aquatic, Inc.

My requirements:

* keep base size to a minimum
* must handle my 72 with ease and be more than enough for a future 90 + 20 gallon Frag Station + sump (don't want to spend again and i will get a bigger tank in the next couple years)
* must be able to operate in 7-12" of sump water with no issue (high return)
* support external canister for collection

Any help is always appreciated!

i am running the Bermuda bps-3c on my 90 gallon in a 30 gallon sump with a mag 7 right now. i feel that it is doing the trick for my bio load. i only have one fish and i do not over feed my system. i have heard from a couple people to run a mag 9 on the skimmer , but i have not tried it yet. i am going to upgrade my sump and return pump to an ehiem EH1262 soon and will try my mag 9 i am using on my return now on the skimmer to see how it works. i am running it in 8 inchs of water right now. it needs a steady water level to keep a good dry skim. the bubble production is decent with the mag 7 on it. i'd say it's a decent skimmer for the money. Is the 72 the size of your display?

Actually it does not need to be in any water at all. When I purchased my 3C, the LFS had one set up on one of their DT's and it was sitting right next to the sump.

When I spoke with the owner of Bermuda who builds these things, he said going to a Mag 9 or 9.5 would be fine.

Just watch your electical use.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info on the water level. My current skimmer needs to be raised and it causes problems in the space that I have.

Funny you should mention electric. I have noticed my electric bill going up with the tank as it went ffrom fish only with a canister to a reef tank with 6 T5s, Mag 3, Mag 7, (2) MJ1200s, (1) MJ600, and a mixing station with (2) 1200s, (2) heaters, and a mag 7 for mixing new batches of salt!

Do you guys think the Bermuda is a worth the electric in return for not havign to mod and deal with pinwheels and mesh?

Yes they are effficient, I am using BPS-3C. I have a 150 G, sump and refugium, I only run BPS-3C for 12 hours. I am using small pump, the rio 12 HF rated at 750G. I am pulling good skimmate, if I didnt have refugium I would up the pump sizes. My bio load is mediam, 6 tangs and etc. It is SPS tank.

good to hear the 3C is working with your 150. I'm torn between the 3C and the 5C. with my current 72 the 3C without doubt. If I go to a 90 or 120 or even 180 down the road I would like to keep the skimmer (i like to buy nice once and keep :)

any thoughts on putting a 5C on a 72? is there such a thing as over skimming?
