Best 20k bulb for a reef tank

What is the best 250w 20k bulb? Ill be using a galaxy ballast. I was thinking 20k ushio/ 20xm.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Never heard of "reef torches"

I was just reading that XMs run great on galaxy ballasts, are they more blue then a radium? Also can you guys post pics if possible of your reefs with these bulbs. I really like the BLV ushio 20k.

Ice heard good things about Phoenix as well.

Anyone know if its true that a radium 20k 250 on a galaxy 250 electronic ballast (not HQI) will run a little more blue and at about a 230w instead of 250?

Also heard they don't last as long but how much of a difference is it?

A bunch of the guys on our local reef forum use the $23 ebay special 22,000k MH with great success. Super economical - most of them were replacing either Phoenix or Radium 20k's and all report the same growth they had previously - the only difference is the extra cash in their pocket.

For me - I just select the "20k" option from the dropdown for my Radion Pro's so I can't tell you from personal experience

Evc 20k is the closest to a radium that I have seen. Tough to find them these days though.

Ya I've heard very good things about tjose bulbs.

I'm pretty sure I'm just gonna roll with the radiums, maybe later down the line switch to the ushios.

Anybody object to radium 250 20ks driven by a galaxy 250w ballast?

Iv heard people using 20 k ushios and galaxy balllast,But ya realy cant go wrong stickin with the 20k radiums,The only downside i realy hear bout the radiums is them only lasting 6 months,But there amazing during that time,Im still trying to decide between ushios and radiums myself lol.Everytime i think i got my mind settled on one i always change it lol.

I only like the 20k ushio bulbs in 175w. The 250w were more like a 14k to me. I tried 2 different bulbs and they were the same. The 20k radium are awesome in any wattage.

I ran radiums last time but tried phoenix this time. I think the radiums looked better and a little bluer. I changed them at 12 months but they still looked good and were growing but I just dont like running them more then a year. I will probably go back to radiums but might also try xm's. One thing I did notice is that the radiums seemed a little hotter then the phoenix. I have galaxy ballast also.

Thanks for the feedback, ya I'm gonna roll with the radiums and use my SOL for any supplement as I don't wanna part ways with it yet.

Another reason is that if I can make it this clean I would like to.
