I recently got my tank online and I'm looking for a nice algae magnet, I've heard great stuff about the flippers, but I also really like the algae free line of magnets, so I figure I'd ask you guys. Would you go with a flipper? If so, which would you recommend? Would I be fine with the algae free tiger shark float plus or do I have to get the great white plus?

I just went through the same exercise for my 3/4" starfire 250 gallon tank, and I went with the tunze strong + and it works great. I am just using the plastic scraper and it gets off the toughest green film algae. It's also pretty small, so I don't mind leaving it in the tank. I made the mistake of always taking the weaker strong magnet out and it slammed against a metal pole and cracked. So I can't fault the tunze, but just be careful and leave it in the tank. Plus it's easier to touch up with it in the tank.

Best is probably the appropriate version from mighty magnets. Comes with a ‘best’ price too!

+1 also use the Tunze strong on my 3/4" glass.

I’ve had a great white and loved it! I’ve also had a larger mangrove. I liked the algae free better.

Get an appropriately sized mighty magnet and rubber band some ebay magic clean erasers to it.

I use algae free magnets, worth the price, work perfectly. I use a hammer head, you would probably need a tiger shark or great white with 3/4" glass.

I like my magnavore 8 but I recently fell back in love with the Tunze Care magnet. But it does not float.

I agree that the only downside to the Tunze magnet is that it doesn’t float but the vast majority of the time if it separates and falls to the bottom of the tank you merely have to hold the outside part against the glass and it will reattach. ;)

Another great feature is the ease of moving it from one wall to another without reaching into the tank. All you have to do is line it up vertically against a corner and quickly move the outside part to the glass on the other side. :)

i have the hammer head with scraper and it works great , but it seems the stronger ones don't float. not sure if they are all like that in that strength.

Just want to point out that on 3/4" glass, the strong plus is needed. I had just the strong and it always separated. The strong plus that I have now is great for that thickness.

I'm curious if anyone with 3/4" has the algae free specifically, as that would be important to know.

I'm curious to know if the tiger shark would work fine since the max size it can work on is 3/4 inch, or should I just get a great white?

That's exactly where I was when I ordered the tunze strong plus. Someone on brs had a review specifically stating that they had success with the strong plus and that the strong wasn't powerful enough for 3/4" glass. So that sealed the deal for me, but if someone had a review of the great white on 3/4" glass, next time I would consider that instead.
