Thank you

Can't beat regular old baking soda baked at 350 for an hour. This is now the same stuff BRS sells, but now only costing you about 50 cents a gallon. Beat that! :D

...no way, you won!
But I learned a while ago to stay out of my wife domain and not play with here tools.:p

There's this guy by the name of Dr. Randy Holmes Farley that calculated all the necessary amounts to make your own alkalinity, calcium and magnesium solutions. His recipes are exactly what BRS is using in the chemicals they sell. However note that BRS sell the soda ash direct, but with Randy's recipe, you need to make it yourself by taking 2 1/4 cups of baking soda, spreading this out on a cookie sheet (that's what I did in the picture above), and baking at 300 (I actually bake at 350) for one hour and letting it cool. Now you're ready to mix that up to one gallon with RO/DI water.

You can find Randy's recipe HERE......and an article I recently wrote on dosing HERE.

Hope this helps.

Dang wow..! That's awesome! Thank you so much I'm going to try it out! I just bought Red Sea Reef Foundation A and B but I will definitely use this to my advantage!

Baking soda for me. 1.125/cups per gallon! I dose about 40 ML a day

One nice thing with BRS is the pre-measured packets of parts 1 and 2. Baking your own is cheaper but I always worried if I was getting the exact amount of each part per gallon, the individual bags takes that away. Im only dosing 30ml of alk per day at the moment so that gallon mix lasts me awhile.
