Okay so my ultra rock anemone seems to be the only Coral I can keep in my 13.5 gal everything else I’ve had to transfer to my 55 gal so I’m thinking of switching my 13.5 to a anemone only tank. So the question is are what would be great anemones to put in there besides condylactis because they typically don’t seem to live long and I just don’t like them. What are some anemones that live long split great and obviously are beautiful? Also hardy is important thank you all ahead of time

Rock nems. Infinite colors, hard to kill, small, and can reproduce sexually in captivity

How about something my clowns can host to bc they don’t host to my rock nem and as far as I know clowns don’t host to rock nems

Long tentacle or bubble tip is a better bet.. problem is they both can get quite large...

I’m actually fine with large bc of the fact that I also want a bta in my 55 for my other clowns but how hardy are BTAs?

BTA's can be amazingly hardy. With proper conditions, I have known of BTA's lasting well over 10 years...

Yeah my tank has awesome parameters that’s why I don’t understand why everything besides my nem dies but it may be due to the constant salinity change from constant high evaporation rates so yeah I’m heading over to my nearest saltwater store rn that’s why I’m trying to see what others think it’s a 2 hour drive but well worth it so we will see what he has in store for me

FWIW, I can grow any SPS Coral on on the planet to massive colonies, but... Have had zero success with nems... Just one of those things I guess... Best of luck, and definitely post up pix!!

Sorry for earlier I didn’t mean to put rock nem I have a mini max[emoji23] don’t know why I said rock nem, but I did end up buying two toxic BTAs one for the 55 and one for my 13.5 so I’ll send pics once I’m home I’ve got another hour and a half I’ll send my mini max nem pics to satisfy you for now [emoji23]

Well technically all anthozoan cnidarians (sea anemones, stony corals, soft corals, etc) have "indeterminate lifespans" meaning that they can outlive us with proper care. There are studies done with coldwater nems that have exceeded 80-90 years in captivity. With optimal care, I'm pretty sure you could make any nem live that long

But I digress. As mentioned above, BTAs, RFAs, and LTAs are a good bet. Condys are generally hardy except they tend to either ship poorly or be treated as expendable anemones (hence why they're so cheap) and can dramatically impact their longevity. I've heard good things about Mini Maxis as well.

Basically if it's not a Sebae (Heteractis malu and H. crispa), a Ritteri (Heteractis magnifica), a large carpet nem, or some oddball nem they are generally "easier" to keep

Yeah I’ve heard about those studies thanks man my new toxic BTA is doing great so far he loved it when I feed big chunks of shrimp to him ate it right up

In a healthy environment, an anemone can live for quite a long time and will reproduce as well.

If they’re dying, it’s most likely due to the environment.

Well that’s basically always the case at least the majority of the time it is and the other reason is for the human care of the maintenance of the tank too

Well, I was trying to say “The issue isn’t short lived anemones, but rather being unable to provide an adequate environment for them to survive” in a less straightforward manner.
