I'm starting my new build which is 36.5x24.5x18.5 70 gallons, I really want to put a small school of anthias in this tank with no other fish, I wanna keep it a species only tank. My question is what's the best anthias for this tank size if there are any? I know lyrtail are popular and do better then most so do u think 1 male and 4 female lyrtail would do fine? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply, do you keep the same male/female ratio with Bartlett as u do lyrtail? I really don't know much about other types of anthias just lyrtail so any info is appreciated!

One piece of advice I've heard that really makes sense: purchase all females. A male will arise naturally. If you buy a male, there's always a chance that you will have a female more dominant than him, and she will kill him to take his place.

Most anthias are not recommended as a school in anything less than 125g. That said, there are some who are kinder to their peers than others. Hutchtii anthias would require a gigantic tank to house more than one at all.

Let me see if I can dig up the pair of articles I found...should be helpful.

I LOVE my Bartlett Anthia Harem. I bought 6 female and 1 male. 1 of the females changed to a male so I now have 5 females adn 2 males, but there is no problem in my 240 gallon tank.

Awesome! I am leaning towards Bartlett now, I found a really good price on them and everyone I have talked to locally has recommended Bartlett so that might be the way I go and your comment is making it an easier decision! So do you recommend 1 male and 4 females?
