Title says it all...

I have a very established 125 with thriving sps, clams, lps, softies, and fish. I want to get a goniopora, I want to start with a hearty aquacultured species. Wondering if any members would recommend a species.

I have heard stories of them not doing well in some systems, but Im guessing an aqua cultured species should do just fine.

Live Aquaria had a couple...

Marshall Islands AC Goni

Another species 'USA Cultured' pink/green goni, does this mean it is AC'd or just fragged in the US?

Thanks! Any input is appreciated.

Red and pinks seem to be the most hardy, that Red ORA you pictured has a reputation for doing very well.

I like tidal gardens pink gonipora. As there isnt many corals that are this color. The names are usually just what company fragged them. USA cultured is actually a vendor name i believe.

Edit ac is aquacultured.

Looked on Tidal Gardens, didn't see any gonis available for now. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll keep my eyes open.

Others also carry a very similar if not the same coral.

With out a doubt the ORA red goniopora is the easiest to keep and one of the better looking ones.
These have been in captivity a long time now. They grow pretty fast too...

I have kept probably about 50 or more color variations and species of goni.

The short/small polyp goniopora stutchburyi is probably next in line. these are more like porities though.

Everything I've read on the coral says to buy the ORA red for the best chance of success. Higher in price substantially but that is the go-to everyone on most forums recommends. If I was to buy one that would be my source.

I love the reds! Almost bought one a couple weeks ago but I literally have no room for it at the moment.

Seems like red is the move, i was a little nervous about the price for my first goni, but if its hearty and will do well, then might just take the plunge.

I think that is your best shot. I'm in the same boat when I saw 100 - 120 US for it but if it has a better chance then seems worth it. Good luck!

the two behind the clam are from ASD and super healthy. Pretty much everything I have gotten from them is still alive and healthy

I have gotten a lot from aqua sd and have had good success, are the gonies AC'd? or just hearty wild species good in aquariums? how long have you had them?

Also what size system and type of lighting (looks like LED)

The red one I got in the summer the other one in the pink one I got in the fall. I believe they are aquaculture especially the red ones

I really want to get one of these from unique corals they’re supposed to be sparkly

I have to wonder if AquaSD Gonis are aquacultured. They always show up in bunches like they are wild colonies fragged and allowed to heal.
If they showed up a few at a time but it is almost always in big groups. I could be wrong. Maybe they aquaculture some of them?

The one above that is green with purple tips from UC is pretty common... It is a pretty easy grower. I almost killed one because I had a few corals in a holding tank while I set up my new system and some how it flipped onto my plate coral. It looks like it is coming back.

Id agree with that, aqua sd seems to say 'homegrown' on anything that is grown in house.
