Best area to dose alk/calcium to?

I dose alk/calcium in the sump near the pumps and found this would cause the chemical to precipitate and jam the pumps. Away from the pumps also form a pile of calcium deposit. Any better way/area to dose alk/cal.to? I have a samll, low flow fuge connected to the sump. Should I dose chemicals to this fuge?

I dose alk/calc/mag..I also dose in the sump and there is never any precipitate..It is my understanding that you should not have any precipitation if you levels are in line..I would check you alk/calc/mag levels and make sure they are not out of whack..

also..dosing alk will always cloud the water in the area you dose but it should be momentarily

The problem here is that this jam the pumps and cause the pumps to fail. I just got a Tunze pump failed after 2 weeks of use and they said I place the pump too close to the chemical dosing area.

where is your magnesium level at? from my readings on reef chemistry, mag helps prevent precipitation. I have been dosing by the return pumps with no problems for years. I also run a maxi-jet powerhead in the return area. maybe that will help mix it up?

how far apart do you dose alk and calcium. i mean which one you dose first then how long do you wait till the next one is dosed?
