Ever since removing the hood from my biocube29 and upgrading to AI LED's I find myself topping off my tank like crazy! I really need an ATO system. What would be the best route to go for my tank? Do I really need an expensive controller to do this?

I have the tunze osmolator. It comes with the pump and has a primary electric eye plus a traditional float for backup. It is considered top of the line ATO from the company that invented the ATO. Worth the extra!

There are plenty of places to cut some corners in this hobby. The ATO is not one i care to get cheap about. Two tanks, both sport Tunze

we really like the tunze osmolator as well as the one by elos.
but when budget is in mind we use a jug, some hard airline tubing, some soft airline tubing, a luft pump or aqualifter and a timer that does seconds and minutes to control it

I built my ATO using the premium kit from Aquahub. However if you are not a DIY person, many different companies like Avast, Tunze, JBJ, etc sell off-the-shelf ATO systems that will work fine for your situation. Check out the different R2R sponsors and I bet one of them will have the perfect option for you.

One thing to note though, try to not hook the ATO directly into your RODI. This will help prevent TDS creep from repeated on/off cycles of the RODI system.
