As you have an apex I would swing for the Neptune afs. The old intellifeed was the same unit just without connectivity and could be powered with batteries. The afs has been very solid for me. I have two that feed three times a day. One is probably eight years old while the other is just over three. I’ve only had two issues in that time. The older unit, at about year five, wouldn’t retract completely when finished. I took it apart, which is simple, and found that a smidge of the gear grease had covered the position sensor. Cleaned it and it’s been fine since. The other issue happened twice over the years. The cup with all the food fell into the tank. This was a maintenance issue on my part. The cup where it fits over the shaft had quite a bit of food pellets that accumulate over the years which caused it not to stay locked in. Now I clean that area out every time I fill it up. Other than that, they’ve been flawless. I originally had floating food rings to keep the food from floating on the surface and down to the filter. There were a pain with algae growth and my trochus snails flipping them so I ditched them. I now have the return pump shutoff a few minutes prior to feeding to keep the food in the tank. As far as food goes, I found the Neptune crossover food sank quickly and most my fish didn’t like it. I use pe pellets and the hikari seaweed extreme and everyone is happy.
